Emily and I introduced our first Substack Live video for our CGC Journal community of subscribers and others who are curious about what’s in this month’s CGC Journal. We are all witnessing the current funding cuts and mass firings by the Trump administration. Many are wondering what can we do?
As usual, Emily and I are strong advocates of engaging in fruitful and productive conversations that can transform minds and hearts. We see the division along race among those who support and oppose Trump. Consider that more than 90% of Black women (largest nonwhite voting bloc) opposed trump while 53% of White women (largest voting bloc) supported him.
Now that Trump is executing on what he calls a “mandate” from the 85% of White Christian conservative evangelicals, there is widespread wringing of hands and incessant incredulity among those targeted and adversely impacted. Tons of protests have sprung up across the nation, and in Congress itself. But there is an eerie silence among the populations of women who supported Trump and among Black women who opposed him. One side quietly watches the carnage unfold in tacit support while the we-told-you-so side quietly dismisses the outcry as not-our-problem anymore … we did all that we could.
But here’s a thought. What if those two sides could come together and have an honest discussion? Even in war, the warring sides appoint diplomats to come together and seek a common ground of negotiation. Could this process be the opportunity we have to bridge the communication gap between White and Black women? After all, if a majority of White women aligned with the overwhelming majority of Black women, the egregious conditions we’re witnessing, which impact literally tens of millions of Americans of all races, could be resolved.
Watch our video and tell us what you think.
